N.S.L.A. Charter School Facility Needs

Norton Science and Language Academy (NSLA) is a science and language focused charter school. They are located in San Bernardino, CA, and opened their doors in 2008. Originally, they started with a Kindergarten through 2nd Grade program. By the 2019-20 school year, they had 822 students enrolled in Transitional Kindergarten through 8th Grade. Approval was recently granted to add grades 9-12 to their program. So, they now anticipate an enrollment of 1,450 students by the 2024-25 school year.

NSLA is currently operating out of a very dated school building and portables, which they are quickly outgrowing. Because of this, the school is in need of more space very soon. They also want a permanent facility they can be proud of and continue to grow into for years to come.

N.S.L.A. Charter School Facility Project Overview

Charter School Property Solutions (CSPS) is eager to help finance and build the new N.S.L.A. charter school facility. We have kicked this project off by securing $41 million dollars in private revenue bonds to fund their facility. With these funds, we will develop the 15.86 acre piece of land NSLA had previously secured.

After working closely with NSLA, we have come up with a facility design that will suit their needs perfectly. Their future facility and campus will consist of seven single-story buildings and one two-story building. These buildings total 88,503 square feet. Consequently, their Pre- Kindergarten through 5th grades will occupy three buildings. Another three will provide space for administration needs, a multi-purpose room, cafeteria and media/science room. The final building will be occupied by their high school grades.

N.S.L.A Gym

We will also construct a 12,644 square foot gymnasium. This gym will contain a regulation high school basketball and volleyball court, athletic department offices, student store, girl’s/boy’s changing rooms, telescoping bleachers and public bathrooms.  The construction time for the gym is seven months and has an additional budget of five million dollars.

Further amenities for the campus that we will develop for NSLA include the construction of: basketball courts, a soccer field, an outdoor asphalt playground, grassed play areas, and approximately 303 vehicle parking spaces.  To sum up, the N.S.L.A. charter school facility will allow for 130-staff members and 1,450 students ranging from Pre-Kindergarten to 12th grade. It will be a beautiful and modern facility that students and staff can enjoy for years to come!
